"The Coming Revolutions in Fundamental Physics"
    Feb 18, 2005

    • In this lecture, the present state of knowledge in elementary particle physics and the questions that we are currently addressing will be reviewed. The state of string theory, an ambitious attempt to construct a unified theory of all the forces of nature will also be reviewed and the conceptual revolutions that might be necessary to complete this task will be described.

        Prof. M. C. Chu
    "Dark Matter and Dark Energy"
    Jul 23, 2004

    • The confirmation that the universe is full of dark matter and dark energy has been selected as the most important scientific breakthrough in 2003 by Science Magazine. In comparison, normal matter that we are familiar with contributes a negligible fraction to the total mass-energy of the universe! What are dark matter and dark energy? How do they affect the evolution of the universe and galaxies? How can scientists study these &invisible* forms of matter-energy? This talk will answer these questions and discuss some contemporary research in this area.

        Prof. S. S. Tong
"Black Hole - From Imagination to Reality"
    May 21, 2004

Prof. Anthony J. Leggett (Nobel Laureate in Physics 2003)
"Superfluid 3-He - The Early Days as seen by a Theorist"
    Apr 15, 2004

    • The story of how, in roughly the twelve-month period July 1972每July 1973, we came to a theoretical understanding of the experimental data on what we now know as superfluid 3He is a sort of complex detective tale, involving many actors besides me; for reasons of time I will concentrate in this lecture on my own involvement, and will have to omit several important developments in which I had no direct role.
