The City
Hong Kong, known as the Pearl of the Orient, is one of the most exciting and beautiful cosmopolitan cities in the world. It is situated on the southern coast of China and is geographically the center of East Asia. Occupying an area of slightly over 1,000 sq. km, it has a population of around 7 million people. There are 9 universities and colleges in the territory, of which 6 offer programs in physics and/or applied physics at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.


Conference Site
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) () sits on a hill in the northeast part of the New Territories, occupying an area of over 130 hectares and commanding a scenic view of Tolo Harbor. It has a Kowloon-Canton Railway (KCR) () station so that it makes the traffic to the nearby Shatin () and the downtown very convenient. Since its inception, it has adopted bilingualism and biculturalism as the basis of its teaching, emphasizing both Chinese and English languages and Eastern and Western cultures. It is a comprehensive university of 7 faculties, with a staff body of over 2 thousands and a student population of around 17 thousands, of which about 45% are graduate students. Oral Presentation
The conference venue is equipped with a build-in computer, a LCD projector, an overhead projector and a visual presenter. Common computer softwares such as MS Office are available. To be safe, if use PowerPoint, postscript or PDF files, we recommend you to send the files to us by e-mail for testing first.


Poster Presentation
Each poster board is of an area of 86cm ´ 120cm, enough for 16 sheets of paper of the A4 size. Authors are reminded to put the materials on the poster boards during coffee break (10:30 - 10:50 am) and lunch time (12:20 - 2:00 pm) on December 19.


Department Facilities
The general office of the Physics Department is located in Room 107, Science Centre North Block, is about 20 meters apart from the conference venue. Please refer to the campus map for the location. Facilities for photocopying or transparency making are available for use at nominal charges.

E-mail room is located in Room G25 and Room 216, Science Centre (North Block). Please be advised that not to exceed 15 minutes for each use.

Reading room is located in Room 126, Science Centre (North Block) provides space for a short rest, discussions or reading magazines/newspapers.


Bank, Bookstore and Supermarket
The Hang Seng Bank, the University Book Store and the Park'n Shop Supermarket are located at the John Fulton Centre () near to the Benjamin Franklin Centre (). Please refer to the campus map.


Banquet
Banquet will be held on Monday evening (December 19) at the Regal Riverside Hotel () in Shatin (). Coaches will be arranged to take participants from the CUHK to the hotel. Accompanying people are welcome to join the banquet at a discount price of HK$200 per person.


Meals
There are several eating places on campus. The two nearest ones are the canteen in the Choh-Ming Li Basic Medical Sciences Building () and the restaurant complex in Benjamin Franklin Centre (). Please refer to the campus map for the locations.

Payment Methods
For payment of registration fee, cash (in HKD, RMB or USD NOTES only) and cheque are acceptable. For payment of room charges in the NTT International House, cash (in HKD only) and credit cards are acceptable. Regal Riverside Hotel and Royal Park Hotel accept cash (in any currency) and credit cards. Most fast food shops in Hong Kong and canteens in CUHK campus accept cash in HKD only. (Personal cheques are generally not acceptable.)
