| 1. Colossal magnetoresistance
(CMR) materials: |
Synthesized and studied bulk
materials; grew epitaxial CMR thin film materials and studied their properties.
|
| 2. Giant magnetoresistance (GMR)
materials: |
Grew GMR multilayers and
studied their properties.
|
| 3. Artificial superlattices: |
Deposited and studied multilayers
with exotic superconducting and magnetic properties. These superlattices
are thin films composed of alternating layers of two different materials,
including Cu/Ni, CuCl/CuBr, V/Fe, CdTe/Bi, NbTi/Ge, Ag/Ni, Cu/Co.
|
| 4. Epitaxial growth: |
Deposited and studied functional
thin films with preferred orientation, including CuCl, Bi, PrOx, Pb(Zr,Ti)O3,
YBa2Cu3O7, (La,Ca)MnOd.
|
| 5. Thin film deposition techniques
and characterization techniques: |
- Set up and modified thin film
deposition systems.
- Techniques include sputtering,
electron beam deposition, chemical vapor deposition, pulsed laser deposition,
etc.
- Set up x-ray diffractometers,
x-ray fluorescence spectrometer and Mossbauer spectrometer.

| 6. Developed physics demos and
experiments for teaching purpose. |
