1. Colossal magnetoresistance (CMR) materials:
Synthesized and studied bulk materials; grew epitaxial CMR thin film materials and studied their properties.
2. Giant magnetoresistance (GMR) materials:
Grew GMR multilayers and studied their properties.
3. Artificial superlattices:
Deposited and studied multilayers with exotic superconducting and magnetic properties. These superlattices are thin films composed of alternating layers of two different materials, including Cu/Ni, CuCl/CuBr, V/Fe, CdTe/Bi, NbTi/Ge, Ag/Ni, Cu/Co.
4. Epitaxial growth:
Deposited and studied functional thin films with preferred orientation, including CuCl, Bi, PrOx, Pb(Zr,Ti)O3, YBa2Cu3O7, (La,Ca)MnOd.
5. Thin film deposition techniques and characterization techniques:
  • Set up and modified thin film deposition systems.
  • Techniques include sputtering, electron beam deposition, chemical vapor deposition, pulsed laser deposition, etc.
  • Set up x-ray diffractometers, x-ray fluorescence spectrometer and Mossbauer spectrometer.
6. Developed physics demos and experiments for teaching purpose.
